Testing

Undetected cabling faults are a major loss of time in troubleshooting network issues.  Do not assume your cabling is sound just because it was installed by an outside vendor.  Especially in the case of data cabling, where installation may have been performed by a technician used to dealing with more forgiving phone connections.  Require a test result for every data line installed.  if the contractor cannot do this (or increases pricing to do so), ask yourself if you have the right person for the job.

Many times we are called in to test installations as a 3rd party, to verify the primary cabling contractor performed a proper installation.  Surprisingly we find many issues, even in the newest of cabling plants.
